Dilemma Discard 3rd time |
Introduction |
Changed up the missions and a few personnel in the deck this month to try and get into the winners circle. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, but I had a good time with our first 3-person sanctioned event. |

Round 1 | | Bye | BY (0) |
I was running late and gave Maggie the heads up. I think she and Eric started early because today went pretty fast. |

Round 2 | | Eric Bieche | FW (+30) |
Eric is playing his Android DS9 deck again and was really taking this game by the horns. I wasn't having trouble getting my draw deck going, but I got hit with two Where No One Has Gone Before's - which was extremely painful. Eric rolled through his first two missions and I had pretty much given up on winning the game and tried to just get rid of as many dilemmas as possible. I think the final count was 22, and when I finished my second trip to nowhere I had quite a large group of personnel in play. Time was running out and I switched gears and went for Betazed instead of finishing Kressari Rendezvous - I thought it was a long shot, but if I got it, I could potentially get the mod win. Eric stopped my first attempt but a Ruling Council gave me another (micro-team) try. I got the mission on that attempt and still had the range to make it to Kressari so I took a stab at it as time ran out. I went first, so Eric would get another turn (and likely win) if I didn't get solve Kressari. I sent all 14 people at the mission and Eric did not have enough dilemmas left to spend the full amount. I narrowly solved the mission with a The Enemy of My Enemy which discarded the personnel I needed to get past Eric's last dilemma. Definitely got lucky here with a come from behind win. |

Round 3 | | Maggie Geppert | FL (-100) |
Maggie was piloting a slick Groumall deck. I used an Inevitable Triumph early to get her to use her Mila so I could later use Our Death Is Glory to the Founders on a Central Command. Unfortunately, I had downsized the Our Death's for this month and my one copy did not show up for any of her Central Commands. I had a tough time getting personnel in play, only getting 7 the entire game, and even spent a turn drawing 8 straight cards and not getting a person. I hadn't had issues getting people in play before, so there was one point where I discarded Weyoun so I would have a TN card in my discard pile for Kira's game text to trigger. Probably would go back and change that decision if I could. Weyoun could have downloaded another personnel and I would have been attempting with 8 and gotten a shuffle that may have helped. Then I might have seen more of her dilemma pile, Maggie's one dilemma stack ended with Gorgon and discarding an 8-cost drone. Maggie played flawless and walked off with an easy win. |

Closing Thoughts |
I think this deck really needs a few more focused cards to really be effective. Placing 5-10 dilemmas out of play really isn't enough to impact the outcome of the game on its own. Either more high-cost personnel that play for less due to dilemmas being out of play (like Founder Leader, except good), or a dilemma that is specific to the milling, or something - maybe a Vorta or Changling that gains a skill off a dilemma that's out of play. Getting 15-20 dilemmas out of play does seem to have an impact and allows for some effective macro-attempts on the last mission, but that's not a strategy I want to count on. I definitely need to find a way to cycle the deck more, especially like in the game with Maggie where I had a handful of ships, interrupts and events, and almost no personnel in play.
I definitely like the new mission selection and the Dominion Dukat is a nice addition. |
