if it moves kill it |
Introduction |
i was playing 5 space voyager; the only one of the Phase 2 bullshit decks that i can currently stomach playing.
funny fact: earlier in the day we had actually considered relocating the tournament to a smaller venue due to several players cancelling. luckily, we didn't... |
|
Round 1 | | Peter Machovits | FL (-5) |
we started playing a game. Peter was playing a blend of new and old starfleet bullshit. damaged Archer vs random selections, and new T'Pol + Accumulated Knowledge vs stoppers. don't remember much, because after 15 minutes somebody was knocking on the door. two czech players were joining us after all; they had been punctual, but unfortunately we had used the venue's back door, and weren't reachable by phone.
we unanimously voted to reboot the tournament. i ended up with the same opponent; he did two space missions, but i never drew Alternatives to Fighting (the one Damage dilemma that would have hit him). it was still quite close until his Timescape prevented me from doing more than one attempt at my final mission.
FL 95-100. will have to tech against Timescape.
funny fact: both czech players had also brought 5 space Voyager. somehow, all three of us lost the first round. |

Round 2 | | Jan Rohacek | FW (+100) |
Jan was playing another 5 space voyager deck. no HQs to hide; and not even a planet mission on the table to beam your personnel down. the perfect target for my ship destruction!
i managed to stop Jan's first caretaker attempt with a damage dilemma, and blew up his first Voyager. while he rebuilt, i raced through my missions. i was briefly hindered by the fact that all my Physics had died, and had to change my mission sequence until i got some more, but in the meantime i managed to stop 2-3 more Caretaker attempts (even with more damage dilemmas; but now his B'Elanna remained safely on the second ship to repair after each mission attempt).
FW 100-0.
this game had some resemblance to the final minutes of the TNG episode Parallels. "met several weird copies of our own ship. had to blow one up." |

Round 3 | | Josef Lemberger | FW (+100) |
bajoran bullshit. Josef brought a perfect combination of the most annoying new and old things Bajor has to offer; and had already beaten both Vlad and Peter with this deck. between his easy event destruction, and incredible redundancy in the mission attempts, i was really struggling.
then we discovered the following: unbelievable, for a veteran player like him, he wasn't aware that different versions of the same personnel share the 3-card-limit. all day he had played an illegal deck with 3 copies of Bareil Antos, Opaka's Protector for the set up, and 2 more copies of Bareil Antos, Esteemed Vedek for the mission attempts.
we weren't really sure how to handle this; we were discussing a game loss and more. i looked it up and discovered that the code of conduct seems to suggest only a single "turn loss" for the whole spectrum of deck errors, but by the time we realized this, his cards from our game were already packed up. Josef himself basically wanted to be disqualified because this had given him an unfair advantage all day; but with no better way to fix this, we agreed on the middle ground, a single game loss; and he had to fix his deck before the next round.
FW 100-0. possibly undeserved. we'll never know. |

Closing Thoughts |
at this point, we were planning to play another round. however, our unexpected guests decided that they were tired, and would rather do a quick round of sightseeing before their long journey home.
with two players dropping, thus faced with the decision to do a round 4 with only one possible pairing (and two byes), or ending the tournament early, the players voted to end the tournament early. some math later (we now had 4 players with 9 points) i emerged as the victor. |
