Regional Fed Deck 2011 |
Introduction |
the smallest regional ever :)
Well the Vandros IV regional has been rescheduled and still only 4 players made the trip to Weiden (kudos to Chris (startrekccggeek) and Johannes (Kaiser) for organising this.. and to Tyler (DJStormtrooper) for volunteering as our forth player!
I decided to play a Fed OS/Mirror/Cardassian deck with Guardian as a draw engine. Zephrams gadget does most of the work dilemma wise, I expect it to be banned soon, as it turned up a lot in the last time. |

Round 1 | | Tyler Fultz | FW (+60)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
My only chance to ever beat Tyler! He played an old DQ Vidian nearly-Hexany (mostly the Power, Smooth, Nanoprobe Resusctiation and Mutation). He managed seeding his two Alpha missions so that I could not use the Telescope to peek at my space missions except one :(. Both decks went fairly fast and to be honest Tyler was with Johannes actually the one closest to beat my deck (even if he didn't realize). He had solved one mission, another cleared of dilemmas and a third only blocked by a Scow. But I solved my Agriculturl Assessment by turn 4 and then 2 Space missions on subsequent turns which gave me the win.
BTW "wherever" was Würzburg and sorry for playing it so fast you could not keep track :(

Andreas special downloaded more stuff than I could reasonably keep track of. I tried downloading Containment Field (?) to put the brakes on that, but it really didn't make a difference. My Vidiians were comparably slow to most everything he was doing. However, I had stocked some extra dilemmas and that game him a harder time getting through my missions than might have otherwise been the case. Eventually, he got Zefram Cochran's Telescope out and was able to peek at all my dilemmas and plan his way through them. They should probably ban that card as it subverts the basic mechanic of the game. |

Round 2 | | Christopher Coyle | FW (+70) |
I do believe that Chris is actually the better player of us two and always playing interesting decks! He used a Borg all space Harness Particle deck with 4 seeded [Univ] Space to attempt first. He solved his Harness Particle pretty soon, collected a Cryosattelite with a Gowron of Borg (for Service the Collective) while I ran into a Linguistic Ledgerdomain at Agricultural Assessment which stopped me from retrieving my Telescope for three turns! So I had to go at my space missions without help and was able to pass a Chula: Bitter Medicine - Subspace Shockwave combo with Chekov+Classic Communicator (DL by JTK)+Pike+ Lt. Dax. Lt. Dax had cunning 10 and got Navigation which left her with 8 to pass Subspace Shockwave! I was ablte to kill Gowron of Borg with A Fast Ship Would Be Nice, so service the collective was useless for Chris. After that I could go back to retrive my Teleskope and solve another space mission in the next turn.

Round 3 | | Johannes Klarhauser | FW (+65)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
After an unnamed person had complained that he was not named a favorite for this tournament i thought of letting him win (actually not, because Johannes is such a fair and honest player that I believe he would be insulted if you wouldn't play your best). He was playing a Crell Moset Cardassian deck with nice 2E ideas but he was not able to get Crell out on turn one. Johannes is actually more of a 2E player but closing the 1E gap fast so his deck was still fast and doing well. I managed to get past Talosian Cage (thanks Pike) to grab my Telescope and go for my missions. Johannes was lagging one turn behind (playwise) which is an all you need in 1E, but his use of Elim Garak, Agent otOO allowed him to score 35 points and he even might have scored enough in the next turn to win (well I had a In the Zone to prevent that ;) ).
All in all a very nice tournament with great people, if nly more would show up for 1E... |
Andreas was certainly the favourite here. He had generously donated a lot of cards last time we met, and, like Christopher, he's always ready to share some insight into basic and advanced 1E gameplay. His Federation/Cardassian deck used an elaborate chain of downloads to place a lot of personnel and ships into play early on. Since I couldn't get Crell Moset out, it took several turns until I was able to catch up with Andreas' personnel as far as skills and attributes were concerned.
Andreas attempted Agricultural Assessment, where he had played The Genesis Effect to nullify Dead End (I didn't have one in the deck). Unfortunately, he had Christopher Pike in his deck, which meant he breezed right through my gender-related combo of Female's Love Interest - Talosian Cage - Matriarchal Society. However, Mr FLI worked his mojo on Inge Eiger, the only Geology Andreas had in play at that time, so at least he wasn't able to complete the mission on this turn.
Myself, I attempted Secure Homeworld and was stopped by Scientific Method after an Unscientific Method had killed my only Science personnel. For the A Fast Ship Would Be Nice that followed UM, I chose to hand over the Jovis to Andreas in order to at least keep my Medical personnel alive.
Next turn, Andreas completed AA by bringing in the Geology (I think it was Vina who provided it eventually) and completed the mission, earning Zefram Cochrane's Telescope. Now it was only a matter of time until he arranged his cards to minimize the damage from the dilemmas.
However, I surprised myself by completing Secure Homeworld, as I was able to play one Science personnel from hand, assign another one as a support personnel, and provided a third one via Elim Garak (2E), who reported for free to Terok Nor and flew over to Cardassia on the Groumall. Now, I had my own copy of the Telescope, but clearing out the dilemmas at Kressari Rendezvous until I hit a Garbage Scow was all I could do before Andreas completed his missions on his next turn for the win.
Andreas was kind enough to let me play out my next turn, and it turned out that (with some coaching by Andreas, e.g. I didn't think of Ops downloading) I would actually have been able to complete both Kressari Rendezvous and Acquire Illicit Explosives that turn to get to 100. Good stuff.
