Your fruit pies...give them to me now. |
Introduction |
Same ol' song and dance, now with more fruit pies! Deck worked well, side strats aside, even not getting a captive didnt slow the deck down much. Assess contamination is actually kind of a bugger to get around. Broken captive is the VIP for the day, found out I went a little too heavy on the stop-all planet dilemmas.
Thanks to Al for running the shindig and Mike Burke for getting the play area booked. |

Round 1 | | Amber Van Breemen | FW (+30) |
Squeaker here. Amber knows her stuff, but an early capture of damaged T'pol plus 3 psycho pressures and broken captive kept her tied up long enough to get ahead. Some good plays and not many errors on either side, got the FW 100 to 75. |

Round 2 | | Altoid | FW (+70) |
I feel bad on this one. Tobin made 2 critical game errors and the game was over really too fast. If this had been allowed to play out, it would have been tougher to stop. 100 to 30 was the final. |

Round 3 | | Brian Gondek | FL (-35)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
BAH! Gondek used his voodoo and made my eyes glaze over, missed 1 very key play and dropped the game like a stone. 1 mistake is all you really get against Brian, he capitalized like a champ. |
This game wasn't going my way at all. Ed used Evek early on to get 2 captives from the top of my deck. Then at his first mission, I played Hard Time + An Issue of Trust. Hard Time got Evek, whom Ed played the next turn to capture 2 more, and Ed used that Central Command card to prevent the IoT stops and complete the mission. He also grabbed Damar early with Ensnared.
I got stuck at Kressari Renzevous, getting stopped time and time again. Late game, the scenario was this:
Ed- 65 points, 4 dilemmas under his last mission (with Skeleton Crew on it)
Me- 5 points, 5 dilemmas underneath Kressari Rendezvous, 7 personnel aboard my ship there.
At this point, I was pretty confident it was game over. I drew a lot at the start of the turn and used Dukat to kill a few events (Psychological Pressure, Unexpected Difficulties). I attempted Kressari Rendezvous with 7 and completed the mission, playing 2 Ruling Councils but geting one nixed by Mila, and with Tenak'Talar, I was at 55 points. I even joked about Mila, saying that it was ruining my point differential.
The next mission was the big game changer. Ed played Secret Identity (adios, Dukat) + Hard Time + Inequitable Exchange + Rogue Borg Ambush. Inequitable Exchange got my Damar back. However, with both Secret Identity and Inequitable Exchange, Ed missed that Silik can gain dilemma skills, and Silik passed Rogue Borg and allowed me to solve the mission. I then went and got 4 dilemmas underneath my last mission (Damar gave the Tenak'Telar range + 1).
I didn't think I'd be able to stop Ed's next attempt, but I managed to stop him with Chula: The Dice. On my next turn, I attempted my last mission with 5 and used Damar's ability to solve my last mission without facing any dilemmas.
Ed really deserved to win this game. It's tough to lose the game in cases like this, and I give Ed a lot of credit for not getting too depressed over it! |
|
Round 4 | | Eric Bieche | FW (+65) |
Odd game for us both; I had no captives and Eric was searching for his 4 species to make Jaresh earn his keep. I edged out ahead and some bad beats on Erics side got me the win. Could easily have gone the other way if the deck had drawn better for him. |

Round 5 | | Michael Van Breemen | FL (-100)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Game was over really damn fast. Klingons scared me a bit, as I was fearing the Kruge/battle deck. MvB got a really good draw, and a couple of clutch random pulls, but his deck was way faster than mine and I never caught up to get into the running; it was just a good, fast, solid solver. Didnt feel bad dropping this one. |
Ed was playing Capture Cardassians and plays Silarin Prin to get Riker (who I did have in my opening hand, darn it.) but he wasn't seemingly draw a whole lot of people. Meanwhile, I'm just churning out the people and with a ship in opening hand, go to IAP with 8 people. He stops me and takes away my lone Biology in play with a Hard Time along with killing someone, taking me down to 6. Next turn, I decided to bluff attempt IAP again and he gives me Secret Identity, so I bring in Khod and work through IAP, then Klag helps me walk through Secure Strategic Base. He captures Klag with Ensnared and eventually goes to Intercept Renegades with 7. I play Hard Time which takes out someone, Dal'rok which takes out Silarin Prin and Polywater, leaving nothing under. Next turn, I play Riker and others, then go to Brute Force. Even with having a good number of Security stopped and discarding 4 cards to get past Whispers in the Dark (with a Psych pressure in play), Riker gains the necessary skills to make it through Brute Force with 5 other people for the win. 100-0 |
