Helping Everyone Helps Me Too Mk. IV |
Introduction |
I planned to try out a new deck, but didn't get around to fully building it. I brought my TNG deck for Continentals. |
|
Round 1 | | Al Schaefer | MW (+75)View opponent's ReportView original Report |
Coincidentally my deck was optimized for play against Terra Prime, because I was expecting to see it at Continentals. This meant that even though Al got 2x Unsavory Customers and 2x Starcrossed in my core, I could work around them. He wasn't using the capturing mechanics, so I didn't feel too bad about leaving Guinan on Earth or Worf helping to staff the Excelsior. I got a very slow start this round because I kept drawing into mid-game cards like BOT and Grav-plating Trap and not actual people. I didn't get out Disadvantage Into Advantage until it didn't really do me any good. |
Maggie had Earth as her HQ, so she wouldn't have too many problems getting around any "Sector 001" exclusive text. I still consumed a lot less than I thought I would and got two Star Crossed into play. It didn't really matter because it took a little too long for me to find a ship and I got shut down easily two turns in a row with Distress Signal and Outclassed. By the time the dilemma pile was close to doing its thing, Maggie was way too far ahead to make a difference. |

Round 2 | | Brian Leonard | FW (+10) |
Brian did not get a God-hand this month for his usual Voyager deck, so he started out plodding along. I managed to stop him a couple of turns at Caretaker's before he went on to Destroy Transwarp Hub. By this time he had 2x Mission Accomplished, Enterprise-J and Hurried Departure out, which made his life much easier in terms of bonus points. I was feeling good because I had sailed through Investigate Maquis Activity until he got two perfect hits on Field Studies. I managed to pull through in the end with the full win. |

Round 3 | | Eric Bieche | FW (+30) |
I'm always worried when I come up against Eric's Android deck because they easily work around my dilemma pile with Qatai, Lore, Ira Graves and Rayna Kapec. Yuck! I was left with Schran for any kind of stopping dilemmas, which is also no good. We were down to the wire and IIRC were at a True Tie when time was called on Eric's turn. I managed to stop him at his third mission and prepped a double team attempt at Baku Planet, which already had one or two dilemmas underneath. I sent down my first team and got stopped, drawing 2 cards for New Life. I then sent down my heroes for the 2nd attempt, again drawing two more cards. Eric asks how many cards I have in my hand (11) and I knew he was planning to play Dragon's Teeth. This was particularly bad because this crew had a few 1-2 cost folks and I needed every one of them to complete. Eric, however didn't reckon with the fact that I had 2 Security Drills on the table. I dropped 7 Fed cards between the two Sec Drills and played my I Need a Little Counseling just to get it out of hand. This left me with three in hand, easily defeating Dragon's Teeth when Ric picked Picard and Rixx. Whew! |

Closing Thoughts |
I should retire this deck, but it's so much fun to play and is very flexible in terms of countering a wide variety of decks. |
